François Becker, Hugo Castelli Eyre, Robert Simon, and Fernand Jehl participated in the three sessions of the conference of INGOS of the Council of Europe in June 2014, in January and June 2015. They were present also at three other sessions of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (pace) in September 2014, in March and September 2015, for the meetings of the working groups. These periods have held meetings of CINGO, organizations International Non governmental Christian who have participatory status.
In addition, through François Becker, the European network was present:
at the conference organized by the Committee of Ministers:
• "Intercultural dialogue: interaction between culture and religion"-1-2 September 2014 (Baku, Azerbaijan)
F. Becker is invited also to the next conference:
The object of our working group is to produce evidence to enable the Council of Ministers to recommend measures to the 47 member countries to urge the extractive industries multinationals domiciled in their countries to promote the codevelopment of the local populations where their industries are located as a means of increasing standards of living and acting as a brake on emigration.
This working group was specially developed with a view to improving the human rights of African, Latin American and Asian populations but the Chair of the Human Rights Committee, Michel AGUILAR, has asked us to concentrate especially on Central and Eastern Europe whilst not forgetting Africa, Latin America and Asia.
HUMAN RIGHTS COMMITTEE
Working Group ‘Human Rights, Codevelopment and Migrations’
20th September 2015
Dear Colleagues,
In several African, Latin American, Asian, Central and Eastern European countries, the exploitation of
natural resources (oil & gas, minerals, forestry, agricultural land, etc.,) is subcontracted to companies,
some of which have their headquarters in Europe. The Human Rights Committee of the INGO
Conference pays attention to the way large companies operating in these countries implement the texts
that guarantee the implementation of the fundamental and human rights – whether civic, political,
economic, social or cultural – of the local inhabitants.
Hugo Castelli alerts us to this:
François Becker discovered this excellent document of the European Union which is available in pdf format in 25 languages and which is very easy to understand and very useful and should be made available to business organizations everywhere.
Update 12th April 2020
Towards the end of 2014, 24 of these language versions disappeared from the EU website EU website but since they will not be uploaded again they have been made available to Global SCR, the original supplier to the EU, and EN-RE.
My Business and Human Rights can be downloaded directly from GLOBAL SCR's website in 23 European languages + Chinese and Japanese. For greater impact, EN-RE suggests volunteers from other (i)NGOs writing an introduction in each of the 25 language versions, linking this Guide on human rights for small and medium-sized Enterprises (but also useful when talking to multinationals) with the Human Rights and Business web page when ENRE and they upload the versions in the languages used in their Member States.
