During the days May 17, 18 and 19, EN-RE’s Spanish member group Redes Cristianas will hold its VIIIth Spanish Statewide Meeting. And for this occasion it has chosen the following theme: "Inequalities: challenges and proposals".

Launched in public in Madrid in 2006, Redes Cristianas is present in all 17 autonomous regions of Spain, with approximately 200 collectives and communities.

Redes Cristianas is characterised by its critical viewpoint on

the immobility of societies and institutions, both civic and religious.

For almost 20 years of existence, its voice has been heard both in written form and vocally in the streets and squares, alongside social and citizens' movements, always demanding equality and justice. This demand has also been made within the Catholic Church, of which it is mainly a part, supporting and advancing further than the timid renewal impulse being made by Pope Francis.

Focusing during these days of the VIIIth Statewide Meeting on the analysis and possible solutions to the great inequalities that affect us, Redes Cristianas does not intend to stop at merely noting and denouncing them. In spite of the unfavourable situation and the involutionary air of the present moment, Redes Cristianas makes a commitment on solutions with a future.

It is well known that, in the debate opened in the first stage of the Synod of Synodality, Redes Cristianas drew up a wide-ranging and well-documented report on the urgency of tackling the serious problems that have historically accompanied us. And it committed itself, in turn, to collaborate in the search for solid and real solutions with the tools that the new culture currently provides us with, because today we can no longer confront the very serious situations of inequality and injustice that affect us with only ideological discourses that seek to perpetuate a past of colonial and patriarchal submission. Today's science and technology, with the new spiritualities that accompany them, are offering other alternatives.

Redes Cristianas approaches these proceedings from the viewpoint of a liberating spirituality that embraces the main dimensions (economic, labour, political, ethnic, cultural, religious, ethical, sexual, ecological, etc.) that discriminate and humiliate human beings; and from attitudes that advocate precisely the opposite, namely, equality and justice, the basis of human dignity.
